Why Choose a Helical Precision Gear Rack? 
 
Rack-and-pinion drives convert the rotary motion of the motor-driven pinion into linear motion along the rack. Compared to straight racks, helical gear racks engage each tooth gradually and keep more teeth in mesh at once. The ZS rack is manufactured to gearing quality 6 in accordance with DIN 3962-1. Standard options include modules 2–6 and ½-meter, 1-meter, and 2-meter lengths, giving designers added flexibility across compact machines and long-travel axes.

Key Features to Evaluate for a Gear Rack 

Material and Tooth Quality 
 
The ZS precision gear rack is crafted with hardened, high-tensile steel for strength, wear resistance, and dependable operation under demanding loads. Tooth quality contributes to positioning consistency, but total system accuracy is also heavily dependent on the pinion, gearbox, alignment, mounting, and preload. Controlling these factors reduces backlash and enhances repeatability across the axis. 
 
Mounting, Load, and Motion 
 
Fastening bores every 62.5 mm provide more mounting points and eliminate the need for time-consuming pinning. The additional bores also help the rack transmit required torque loads securely. With a maximum feed force of 83.1 kN, the ZS rack supports high-force motion, rapid acceleration, and applications like CNC routers, laser cutting systems, pick-and-place equipment, and seventh-axis travel. Helical tooth engagement distributes the load across multiple teeth for stiffness, lower noise, and long service life. All ZS racks are backed by a two-year warranty. 

Safety First

Rack and pinion products require many safety features, especially in a vertical axis application. The new STOBER ZS rack features double the number of installation bores to speed up installation without pinning and safely transmit the required torque loads.  Plus, the helical rack design can handle higher loads since more teeth are engaged. How to Choose the Right ZS Rack-and-Pinion System 

Select a gear rack based on the feed force, travel length, speed, acceleration, duty cycle, mounting space, and positioning requirements. Matching the rack module to the pinion is a must, and the gearbox and motor have to suit the complete load profile. ZS racks can be paired with inline gearboxes, geared motors, or right-angle gearboxes for compact drive layouts.
